
How can I host a Healthy
Hoof Clinic in my area?

Don't worry, we're trying to keep it simple and easy for
the clinic host!
We need:
- A "classroom" type setting for the morning sessions, with
electrical plugs available, so we can show our Powerpoint presentation on
our own provided screen. This classroom does not need to be indoors, but needs
to be covered (especially when weather could be an issue!) and dark enough
that we can show our presentation. A barn, covered riding arena, hay barn,
or enclosed very shady area could suffice, as long as it will be dark enough
to view the screen. We would need enough room for chairs for all the attendees
to be comfortable for about 4+ hours at a time (with breaks, of course!) Chairs
can be provided by you, or you can ask guests to bring their own. We will
need our chairs provided, as well as a few tables (small one for the projector,
large one to place sample books & misc., a few others would be nice to
have). We are flexible!
- A fairly roomy trimming area for the afternoon, where horses can
be worked on while attendees watch.
- A restroom for everyone to use that weekend.
- If we are flying in, it would also be great if you could supply a Hoofjack
or other trimming stand, as well as something that could be used as a trimming
stool, such as a drink cooler, toolbox, or similar.
- At least 2 HEALTHY-hooved horses (no pathology) must be available
for trimming demonstrations on Saturday afternoon. They should be calm, and
able to hold their hooves up comfortably for a fairly long period of time.
At least 2-3 more horses will be needed for Sunday afternoon - we would prefer
healthy horses, but horses with problems may be acceptable.
- Optional: Hoof-slicing dissection demonstration is available, if you can
provide a bandsaw and a frozen cadaver hoof. This has been a big hit with
the audience!
Host Duties:
- Help promote the clinic in your local area.
- Provide the location requirements per above; be the contact person for people
to ask questions about location, directions, hotels, boarding for horses brought
in, etc.; please provide weekend refreshments & snacks, with lunch either
provided or arranged for separate fee; and help me to collect any balance
due when participants register at the door.
- Lunch will be on-site each day at approx. 1 pm, and we ask that you provide
us with lunch. For everyone else, you can either provide lunch for free or
for a fee, or we can ask the guests to bring their own lunches.
- The budget will be left up the host - with the 10% amount, you can
keep more money by doing everything yourself, or be as elaborate as you'd
like. The 10% payment will be mailed to you promptly the week following your
clinic weekend.
- The Horse's Hoof will have a sign-up for your clinic on this website, with
fees paid here in full. A minimum number of participants must be registered
one month prior (if minimum is not met, all fees will be refunded in full).
Clinic price will be lower for those registered one month prior.
Required number of participants:
This will vary, depending on your location and the expenses for
us to travel to you. We have decided to set a "maximum" limit of 40
participants per clinic, to keep a personal tone, but this number may be less,
depending on your own facilities. For clinics within a reasonable driving distance
in the Southwest, we may require 15-20 people; while clinics on the East coast
may require 30-35 people.
We'll take care of our own transportation and accommodations with
the clinic fees we collect.
