NEW! Review of The Healthy Hoof Clinic
San Diego-area Clinic, June 3 & 4, 2006 - what a blast!

Participants are gathered around on the shady lawn at the lovely home of host, Marci Lambert, in Valley Center, California.

The breezy shade trees made for very comfortable afternoons, despite a California heat wave that weekend! Luckily we were able to move our morning presentation indoors, so we could enjoy the air conditioner. Of course, the weather still felt cool to us (coming from Phoenix!)

James coaches one of the participants as he works on his own horse, whom he has been trimming for quite some time.

Host and professional trimmer Marci Lambert (left), along with our designated horse-holder and helper, Odette Suter (right), who is holding Marci's horse, Jet. Jet was featured in a previous issue of The Horse's Hoof as a barefoot jumper, and can be seen in action in a photo on this page: barefootperf_jump.html

James demonstrates using the angle grinder on Jet as just another helpful tool for trimming - nothing more, nothing less. For desert-hard hooves, it is an absolute blessing!

Jet's hooves, after trimming. Every horse - and in fact, every single hoof - is trimmed as a unique individual. Perfect hooves? No hoof is perfect. Perfect trim job? No trim is ever perfect, and there is no need to fix everything today. Keep the horse happy.
Comments from clinic participants:
"Hi Yvonne. It's Rachel Ducker. Just wanted to say (again) what a terrific clinic you and James held last weekend. Mike and I learned a ton. Mike's just finished working on our horses and I know we are finally on the road to complete hoof soundness. What a great feeling. Thank you both soooo much."
"I had the pleasure of attending the the first Healthy Hoof
Clinic in San Diego in June. Yvonne and James Welz did an outstanding job of
presenting the information. It was obvious that a great deal of preparation
went into it, down to the detailed handouts they provided.
In addition to super PowerPoint presentations, watching James trim, explaining
as he went along, was very educational. And I appreciated
listening to James guide the trimmers on the second day.
I would recommend the Healthy Hoof Clinic to anyone who wishes to continue learning
how to improve the health and well-being of their
horses. Bravo to Yvonne and James for providing this much-needed clinic!"

Great Clinic - THANK YOU!
"Just a quick note to highly recommend this clinic to anyone interested
in healthy hooves...whether you plan to trim or not! James and Yvonne are the
perfect team! The clinic is well organized, thorough, professional, and they
stick to their schedule (thanks so much!). They have put much thought, experience,
and time into their presentation. Believe me, I was ready to turn around and
drive the 3 hours back home if it was anything less than outstanding! I stayed
until the last minute!!! (They did work overtime though repairing a hoofwall
separation in Buddy's hoof. I wish that I could have stayed for that!)
"I will make no excuses or apologies. I adamantly believe
Dr. Strasser is the most significant hoofcare expert ever. James completed the
Strasser training, but balances that intensive "rehab" focus with
a practical and "generic" barefoot approach. He most certainly uses
a grinder and something like a dremel, but in a different way than most of us
use the flap grinder.
"It was also extra neat to see a few photos of James and
Yvonne riding and jumping their own horses. One thing that I really wish I had
heard years ago ...James emphasized "ride your horses" ... if necessary,
get someone else to trim them so you can ride! ... well ... I haven't ridden
for a long time because everytime I go out, I feel guilty that somebody needs
a trim... These folks really know what it's about and have their stuff together.
"I've subscribed to the "Horse's Hoof" since the
beginning ... and I will until I ride my ponies over the rainbow bridge. Sorry
to go on ... but it was really worth the time, effort, and $$$."

"Since you and James came and presented your Healthy Hoof Clinic and watching James trimming different horses, my trimming has greatly improved. The quality of the trim I now do for my clients is a lot better than what it was. The quality of my trimming was good prior to your clinic, but I would say overall my trimming based upon James' critique (of what horses he trimmed prior to the clinci) and what I needed to concentrate more on has improved by at least 70%. I can actually see it in my trims. This is pretty exciting for me to say the least." --Kim Richman
