Here are some of the products that we highly recommend to help support your barefoot horse journey. This list may include nutrition and supplements, natural horse care and hoof care products, hoof boots, ethical tack, and more.

If I have any affiliation with the product, I will include a disclosure. However, I’m not one of those people who can be easily bought – so if something is here, it is because it has been successful for me, and has been working well whenever I recommend that product to others.

This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, but just some useful referrals. This is a work in progress.

Cavallo Hoof Boots
Disclosure: I am an employee of Cavallo Horse & Rider (since 2020). That said – I was using their hoof boots on my horses exclusively for years before they asked me to join them! It started with one mare that wasn’t tolerating other boots, but she loved Cavallos. Then I tried them on my other horses, and they were a hit with all. They are great for general riding, trail riding, and hoof treatment, also! We jump in them, canter in them, no problems at all.

Dynamite Specialty Products
Disclosure: The Horse’s Hoof has been an Independent Dynamite Distributor since 2001. Dynamite has unique and amazing products that support natural hoof care! I highly recommend their Dyna Pro prebiotic, which is my “must have” even though it is expensive. When my TB mare has gas colic, that is my go-to miracle. I also recommend their Free Choice Mineral Pack, Izmine, Parasite Pack, and Miracle Clay. They do offer a full program which features their Dynamite Vitamin & Mineral Supplement. Other great natural care items include Wound Balm, Wound Salve, Solace (colloidal silver), and Trace Minerals Concentrate. They also offer more products for people, pets, and livestock.

Mad Barn
This is simply a great company! They will even review your horse’s diet and create a customized program for you. I really like their product “3:1 Zinc Copper” which allows you to safely and easily bump up these minerals.

Horse Tech
Disclosure: The Horse’s Hoof has been an authorized reseller of Horse Tech products since 2008. I am a huge fan of their product, Arizona Copper Complete which you can find under their Custom Products. This formulation is brilliant for pairing with Arizona Bermuda Grass Hay, which is the base of my horses’ diet.

Hay Chix Hay Nets
I’ve been using Hay Chix hay nets for years now. They have been proven in a study to NOT affect horse’s teeth, the nets last an incredible long time, they have repair kits, and I simply love their West Coast Bale Size nets! I always purchase the 1 3/4 inch original netting.

Hay Pillow
Monique Warren has created a fantastic product with The Hay Pillow. They are designed to feed at ground level, in a natural grazing position. She also has a lot of excellent natural horse care info on her site.

Bitless: J&S Hex Hacks Graysville MFG
There is now a USA manufacturer of Bitless Wheels! These are adorable and ride beautifully! They are called “J&S Hex Hacks” and are available in a bunch of lovely colors! I bought the Pink and the Electric Purple. They are super lightweight and smaller than my other wheels; the sleek design seems to be a genuine improvement! For more control, they also offer the J&S Ultra Hack Shank bitless design (similar to the S hackamore used by endurance riders).

Light Rider
I love recommending Cynthia Cooper’s bitless bridle designs – they are excellent. Cynthia also runs Natural Horse World, and is located in Australia.

The goal of James & I, from the time we first began down the barefoot path, has simply been to share our information and resources, and to help others! This is not about gurus or trademarked methods, or who is “right” and who is “wrong” – this is about coming together in unity to share ideas and experiences. We are all unique, we have different horses and different situations, and there is so much to learn FROM EACH OTHER!

The Horse’s Hoof has been a cheerleader for the entire barefoot movement since 2000. Hoof Help Online, an online membership site that we created in 2011 for James to share his life’s work with others, is a place where you can receive direct input from us. Both these platforms work together to provide a welcoming place where barefoot enthusiasts can stand on common ground. We can provide crucial support for anyone interested in learning about barefoot horse care.
